great creating nature

snake lily rising

To me the Snake Lily will always be a mysterious thing. I tried to bring out its distinctive character, how it snakes its way out of the earth, producing different forms as it does so.

It is often called Blood Lily because of the dark earth-red of new growth and the cup of the flower. The lily seems to draw red oxide from the earth which then re-appears at strategic points in the plant - a striking transformation."

iNhlosane

The log rising in the foreground out of a bed of leaves may seem an assertive intrusion in the scene, but actually it characterises the landscape. It represents the generative power of nature which is evident everywhere in the landscape.

*iNhlosane is a landmark mountain with a distinctive shape. It is visible when looking west from the Hilton ridge towards the Drakensberg mountains.
