This painting recalls hearing lions roar at night in iMfolozi game reserve. It is a thrilling primeval sound, gradually receding from our world.
This striking white head appeals because of its tactile qualities, its solid volumetric sculptural qualities, like a broken classical sculpture. It is also evocative of a vanished world, of primal nature which is almost lost to us, but not lost entirely.

These powerful forms seem at rest in this darkening landscape. They seem to be sinking into the deep repose of all earthly things. At the same time, they remind us of the power and vitality of primal nature!

My daughter called these shining figures "ghosts from the past." Yes, that is what they are: apparitions from the past, poignant relics of a fast-disappearing world, the world of primal nature.
These are powerful, solid forms. They evoke the vigour and vitality off primal nature. The landscape behind these forms looks familiar but it recedes into the obscure distance.
